Pumpkin Pie

At this time of the year I try to empty the freezer; it needs to be defrosted so that come summer I can start filling it again. I'm reading a great book called Blue Plate Special by Kate Christensen; one of her friends cooks up a wonderful Thanksgiving feast in May. So when I found the last two blobs of frozen sugar baby pumpkin, I knew that I had to make a pie, what month it is just does not matter.
The crust is pure butter and it was a delight to roll it out. The filling recipe is from Barefoot Contessa.

The gift

Hyperacusis: Abnormal acuteness of hearing due to increased irritability of the sensory neural mechanism; characterized by intolerance for ordinary sound levels.

Why would someone who suffers from hyperacusis and tinnitus on top of that, suggest going to a movie?

Saturday night

It is so warm that this is the first day since November that I did not need my winter coat. The spring melt has begun; tiny rivers running down the road like they have a better place to be. The week is done, it's Saturday night so dinner was a simple affair, no cooking required (not because our oven exploded) but just because we love a platter of antipasti.

Looks aren't everything

This is a Stripey Chocolate Peanut Butter Loaf from Canadian Living. It looked so complicated that I even watched the video that goes along with the recipe. I used almond butter instead of peanut butter but other then that I followed the recipe to a T.
So I don't know why about a quarter of the batter ended up on the oven floor. Once it cooled it came out of the pan ok but even though it looks really neat, this recipe is not a keeper.
