One of the great things about an early morning summer day is that you can walk around the garden, coffee cup in hand, in your pajamas. I did just that this morning and what a wonderful surprise awaited me; a beautiful butterfly enjoying my lavender. The visitor was only here for a few minutes but that's all I needed to have a good morning besides my coffee.
For us it was a very busy weekend what with Father's Day on Sunday and Valodya's birthday on Monday. First thing Saturday morning we picked up some spinach, swiss chard and strawberries at the Farmer's Market and then breakfast at Cowboy Coffee. Our search for ordinary red bricks so Valodya could finish a project he started last summer proved futile. And rain barrels are hard to find also.
We had such a welcoming rain shower last night; yes, there was thunder and lightning but we definitely needed a bit of a cool down even though it only lasted a matter of minutes. My feverfew is doing really well in the back garden (the peonies are from the Italian guy at the farmers market) so I filled my favourite pitcher (Vallance Pottery) with a bouquet of the tiny daisies and took it to work. Sweet looking flowers and they'll cure your migraines.
Saturday morning we filled the cooler with strawberries from the farmers market. Enjoyed breakfast at the park near the river. Could not resist the fabric sale at my favourite quilt shoppe. New blinds for the bedroom. Our feathered friends are splashing about in their new birdbath that I found at a thrift store. And I took time this weekend to walk down the street to my neighbours and smell the roses.
Breakfast at the park. Work. Lunch at the park. More poppies. Thrift store pottery. Awesome sunset.
My post for my blog today was going to be all about the poppies I discovered on my lunchtime walk. My pictures do not do them justice; the swath of yellow cascading down a gentle slope, the blooms swaying in a most welcome breeze on a +30 degree afternoon. But better than poppies was the package waiting for me when I got home, a package from Cafe Cartolina. Two notebooks and an assortment of cards sent to me by the wonderful Fiona. What a nice way to end the week.
With days to spare, I finally finished the pencil crayon holder for a certain soon-to-be four year old. It was great going through my stash searching for just the right colours and with a walking foot, it stitched up nice and flat. Thank you to my friend, Maryanne, who suggested I buy one many years ago.
