I have just discovered a wonderful new baking book called The Sweeter Side Of Amy's Bread by Amy Scherber and Toy Kim Dupree. The first recipe I tried are the scrumptious cookies pictured above-Lime Cornmeal Cookies. I made these because I had all the ingredients and they are great; crunchy and soft. I made two batches, one with lime and the other with lemon. I did glaze some of them but they are perfect even without the glaze.
As this is my birthday week I have decided to do a giveaway. I am just making up more cloth shopping bags so some lucky person will get one of my creations. Leave a comment on this post between now and Sunday and on Monday I will do the draw. If you mention my giveaway on your blog please let me know so that you will get two chances to win.

Finally
Good weekend
Maura was up early and made brunch for us. We really enjoyed the french toast with pomegranate jelly and lots of bacon.
Yesterday Maura and I went to the Rocksalt for lunch. I ordered dip which came with no dip, my coffee was never warmed up and Maura's fish and chips were greasy. We've tried it and we'll never go there again.

Best ever?
When something is touted as the 'best ever' you have no choice but to give it a try. So I baked up a batch of chocolate chip cookies from the latest issue of Harrowsmith magazine. These are chewy and full of oats and coconut and pecans. But the recipe that I have been making for over twenty years is still number one at our house. What's the difference you ask? Must be the secret ingredient.

Spring cleaning madness
Yes, it's still freezing cold out but I had a case of spring cleaningitis. We have four huge bookcases in the livingroom so I started dusting and weeding (felt like I was at work) and before I knew it, my pile of discards was much bigger then my keeper pile. I may have breathed in too much dust because I was actually considering giving away my favourite Canadian authors. But all is not lost. The Bertons, Findlays, Atwoods, McLeans, and many others have been resored to their rightful place and all it took was one little phone call. Maura and TG are usually right on.
