Marsala Cherry Cake

It's cherry season so when I saw this recipe on Elizabeth Minchilli's blog I knew I had to try it. Marsala Cherry Cake is loaded with cherries, of course, but made with whole wheat flour so it has a nice crunch to it. My test-kitchen staff said it doesn't have enough booze (Marsala) in it so next time I'll add an extra glug.

Birthday brunch and a show

Hot, summer morning so we headed to the river with our Pesto Chicken, Asiago, and Bacon sandwiches on freshly baked Oregano Bread with our favourite coffees and muffins for dessert.

Blue ribs

For this special Sunday I made Blue Velvet Cake frosted with the Best Icing ever! The cake recipe is from addapinchdotcom and the frosting recipe was featured on the pioneer woman. Both are keepers.
Mr. Cowboy loves ribs so I cooked up a batch for him using a new recipe from Sunset magazine. A dry rub of fennel seeds and herbs is rubbed into the ribs (actually quite fun) and then chilled for 24 hours. Roasted on low heat for 2 hours, the house smells great, and the ribs are so tasty that we will never order out again. Sorry, Montana.

La Dolce Vita

I love David Rocco's Dolce Vita cookbook; the stories, the pictures, and the recipes make for a great book. For a quick Sunday supper I tried his Lentils with Pancetta recipe. It's quick and easy and very tasty!
